Session 5 of Blades in the Dark - Mechwerk and Gunpowder
We last left our slack jawed Wet Bandits at The Fat Squirrel pub after giving the pilfered book over to their client, Vond Van-Kell.
Prior to this, the masters of disasters were minding their own business within their Brightstone lair, when a note was delivered to Cleras via his demon contact, Satarra. After the note was delivered, from his peripheral vison, Cleras noticed some sort of motion. Seeing it was a good idea to investigate. Peeking around the corner, Cleras viewed some sort of crab shaped mechwerk creature that attached itself to the side of their lair. With a whirl and click, along with the smell of Sulphur, Cleras realized that a bomb was about to go off and quickly ducked for cover.
Luckily for the Wet bandits crew, in the aftermath, the damage to the lair was not as sever as it could have been; though their neighbor's row house was not so lucky. Cleras quickly explained what he encountered to Reggie and Marv. Reggie quickly inspected the remains of the mechwerk creature and gathered them up - he didn't want some flat footed blue coat asking questions. Whilst looking through the remains, Reggie did notice a half destroyed metal label that looked to show an Arden industries logo.
Once the Blue Coats and the fire department arrived on the scene, Marv acted quickly to fast talk the Wet bandits out of this predicament. Though he was slightly successful, the flat foots were not entirely convinced and will be checking back up on the crew after further investigation.
Clears, being the inquisitive type, attempted to attune to the book and was greeted with dark visions of something vile in the process of being summoned.
Once the fuzz and fire department were gone, the crew returned to the business at hand; dealing with the Vond Van-Kell, whom hired them to pilfer the tome currently in their possession. Cleras revealed the contents of the note received and that it stated that the book contained very powerful black magic, and should not be opened or any knowledge gleaned from it's contents. Clears, being the inquisitive type, attempted to attune to the book and was greeted with dark visions of something vile in the process of being summoned. He was rewarded from his dark communion with blood dripping from most of his orifices. The crew, seeing Clears' condition, decided to leave book well enough alone.
With the night of the meeting nigh, the crew set off to a classy pub aptly named: the Fat Squeril. Once their they were promptly sat down and given beverages, and also promptly noticed that they were the only ones in the pub, besides the staff. Despite the creepy vibe, they drank their beverages and waited for Vond Van-Kell.
Though almost fashionably late, Vond Van-Kell arrived by the time half a pint was consumed. After quickly exchanging pleasantries, he quickly got down to business. The crew attempted to find out what the book was going to be used for and to see if they could secure a higher payment. Despite their best efforts, they were quickly reminded about why they were hired in the first place: discretion, along with handsome payment. With the crew unable to argue with such a great argument, they gave the client the goods; though Cleras did notice a rather strange glow that emanated from his eyes after receiving the book.
With the book in Vond Van-Kell's hands and payment in the crew's their business was conclude and he was preparing to leave. With a quick thought, the crew asked their client if he would ever be so kind to take a look into whom might of secured a mechwerk bomb and pointed it at them. Giving the crew a once over, Vond Van-Kell agreed and then promptly left the establishment through the back kitchen entrance. The crew then quickly realized that he owned the pub.
