Session 4 of Blades in the Dark - Taxi Spotting and Rude Gestures

We last left two of our ragtag crew leaving the Helker's neighborhood in a stolen mechwerk taxi, and one strutting back to the lair whilst giving suggestive gestures to the McCallisters.

Prior to this, two of the crew were descending from the second story floor of the Helker's house, with the plundered tome in hand. While Marv was making sure the family was none the wiser to the happenings within their own house. However, little did the daring crew know that the McCallisters knew of the very heist and were plotting to expose and acquire the tome for themselves.

While Marv was engaging in light social banter, he was handed a note from the butler. The contents of the note indicated that the McCallister's knew why he was attending this dinner. Without breaking a sweat, Marv decided to let fate take it's course and roll with the situation, relying purely on his mental wit as his weapons.

While Marv was waiting for the McCallister's to make the next move, Reggie and Cleras were making their way back to the lair by way of a mechwerk taxi - as these are all the rage within the more wealthier districts of Duskvol - their travel was interrupted by long barrel shot to the taxi, causing the mechwerk vehicle to come to a halt and the driver quickly fleeing for his life.

Deducing that something may be amiss, Reginald and Clears stepped out of the taxi only to discover they were to be mugged for the tome by two thugs hired by the McCallisters. Clears, thinking quickly on his feet, was able to convince the that they would not be paid by their would be employers. After accepting the helpful advice, scoundrel to scoundrel, the thugs left leaving the two with grins of success after pulling off such a bull-shit story. Reginald, not be outdone by Cleras, was able to patch up the mechwerk taxi and the two rode off to the lair, tome in hand.

Meanwhile, back at the Helker's house, Marv was dodging probes about speculative investing with much success. However, the situation started to turn tricky, as at the suggestion of Mr. McCallister, Fran Helker wanted to show off his Death Land hunting trophies to Marv, which so happened to be where the heist took place. The McCallisters were making this simple smash and grab job into a more delicate one; requiring a bit more finesse; nonetheless, Marv persisted and trusting his wit and his luck to see him through.

Marv, being one to never go without making the final retort, gestured to his arse as he walked away into the ever night.

Once in the study, Fran Helker did not notice any of the events that took place; luck was on Marv's side after all. After the dog and pony show presented by Fran, he wanted to show off the rifle that took down a rather large Death Land beast. Unfortunately for Marv, the rifle was located within Fran's vault; luck always was a filcke mistress. With a grin from Mr. McCallister, Fran made his way to the vault, dialed the combination, along with a flick of a switch from the top of the frame, and the door was open. After entering he vault, there was yell of concern from Fran, Marv and Mr. McCallister shared a knowing glance with each other as Fran exited the vault in a rush. Making a hurried excuse about business issues, Fran quickly ended the night.

With the night concluded, and the tome successfully plundered, Marv left the Helker house, with the McCallister right behind him. Mr. McCallister made a snide compliment about avoiding the blame of the tome. Marv, being one to never go without making the final retort, gestured to his arse as he walked away into the ever night.
