We last left the fated in downtown Malifaux after narrowly defeating, for the second time, the nefarious being known as the Carver.
Prior to this, the fated made their way from the dilapidated building, carrying an unconscious Sam McGee. Whilst on their way, the trio had an encounter with a rare Nephilim being, which the fated promptly dispatched with great furious might.
Once safely back in downtown Malifaux, the mercenaries sent a telegram conveying their successful mission to Jeffery Detweiler; along with the Nephilim body and Sam McGee, to one of the fated's flat. Once there, the fated began interrogate Sam, attempting to ascertain more about the strange artifact. Through much threatening of murder hoboing, Sam was clearly insane. However, some information was found, non of which was well taken. With the fated tired from battle and torture, they retired for the night. However, during the night, even though the trio each took watch, the body of the Nephilim vanished, leaving only a bloody trail from floor, where the body was left, ending on the top of the flat's ceiling. Despite the missing body, Sam McGee was safely kept in place; mainly due to binding contstraints.
The next day, the fated made their way to the Victorian pub, to await the arrival of ol' Jeffery. However, whilst there, the Carver struck again, despite the destruction and subsequent looting the creature night before. This time almost sending one of the fated to their early demise. Through the quick action of the other two fated, they quickly discharged the carver for a second time.
With the gravely wounded fated stabilized, the trio convinced the emergency medic to take the cursed artifact and thus alleviating themselves from the wretched statue. Though they lost the guild scrip, the fated were able to keep their lives and gain a fellow, though insane, mercenary.
